About our saddles

We started repairing saddles at Tarpin Hill in early 1980's before we made our made our first new saddles available in the late 1980's.

The Tarpin Hill trooper saddle is the most comfortable on the market today because of the top quality materials and the original Ottawa design. We reproduced an 1912 original Canadian trooper saddle as close as possible but with a few minor changes made at the suggestion of our customers, but the basic design remained the same.

The frames of our saddles are cast of 304 stainless steel and test over 100,000 PSI.  The side bars are made of Ash, Canadian hard maple or durable polymers and machined to exact standards for maximum strength and horse comfort.

The leather in our saddles is a 10oz. English harness leather which is made from top quality US steer hides.  We this type of leather because a new saddle has a short break-in period and becomes very supple after just a few ridings.
